PURPOSE DRIVEN GOALS.

IT'S TIME TO FUND OUR FUTURE— NOT PULL THE PLUG ON IT.

No elected official would dare to state publicly that he or she doesn’t support providing its people with the great service they deserve and need to reach their full potential. So it’s common to hear politicians proclaim that leadership is a serious business and that our future is important. But, as the old adage goes, actions speak louder than words — and so does inaction. Far too often, “leaders” across the SRC Presidency have failed in previous years to act in the best interests of the 70 percent of students who face numerous challenges in our bid to seek academic success in KNUST.

This week, the students are preparing to go to the polls again: to elect new SRC executives for the next academic year.

ADU-BAAH CHARLES and NAZIR YUSIF MOHAMMED are proud to join colleagues students, friends, sympathizers, friends and family not only to exercise our franchise but calling you to support our PURPOSE DRIVEN PLAN, calling for adequate investment in long term SRC projects and highlighting the great things happening in the future that will put the SRC on a better pedestal.

Foundational to our democracy and to our economy, the SRC is the only institution that promises to help all students’— regardless of who they are or where they’re from — realize their dreams and aspirations.

Ironically, the successive SRC have chosen to spend its hard-earned dues on activities rather than progress— including, yes, usual programs for students!. But given that we now  trying to eviscerate some Acts , and with it, help build the SRC, why should we not develop a sustainable development plan for the SRC? The shameful reality is that, in the long run we have become spenders and never making any future plans.

We stake so much on potential, and yet, when it comes to investing in th the reality, the SRC falls dreadfully short.

The broadly popular impasse in October last year, voter apathy in most elections— as well as high-profile battles over the use of the SRC dues — are signaling a fundamental paradigm shift in our student governance.

Students want a plan for the direction of the SRC and they’re taking their to demand the conditions they and their fellow students deserve.

The campaigning is working. Because students stand  with us, and public opinion was with us. Even so, our plan is well defined.

It’s time to reverse the decade of savaging our students dues, when austerity masqueraded as reform. It’s time to make plans that set real priorities at all levels.

That’s why the team ADU-BAAH CHARLES and NAZIR YUSF MOHAMMED is launching the “PURPOSE-DRIVEN GOALS (PDGs), a 3-5 years plan to build on the momentum of the current, students and communities demanding adequate and sustainable investment in our SRC for the future. We fight so students — particularly our most vulnerable and at-risk colleagues  — have the resources they need to succeed, at a school where they feel nurtured and safe. We fight so every students in this noble institution has access to up-to date information: manage our resources efficiently.

Given this crucial time, the Purpose-Driven Goals(PDGs) is even more important.

Without offering any replacement plan at all, the current state of our SRC would simply pull the plug on thousands of KNUST students.

Fortunately, there are a slew of proposals in the body to strengthen us and improve our future in the face of the current onslaught. That’s called funding our future — as opposed to pulling the plug on it.

By coming together, we can restore and reinvigorate the foundations of our democracy, especially our SRC, which help prepare and care for the next generation of artists, engineers, linguists, leaders and athletes. These critical institutions sit at the center of our communities, helping make life better for all humans . This week, and every week, we fight to fund our future, so every part of the campus can be a place where students want to spend their time. That is a future worthy of our people and our democracy.

LONG LIVE SRC

LONG LIVE GHANA!!!
